Beyond My Comfort Zone: My Adventure on a Reality TV Show for Entrepreneurs

I did a thing. I applied to be on a reality TV show for entrepreneurs. To be honest, I never thought I’d actually get picked. It started as a quiet little nudge—"why not, just see what happens." Well, three rounds of interviews later, I was officially selected to be on The BLOX, the largest startup competition show on the planet. (Yeah. That part still feels surreal.)

Filming wouldn’t start for a few months, and I kept it hush-hush—only my husband knew. The format? Each day, we’d learn something new, then scramble to create a presentation based on it. We had 15 minutes to prepare, and then it was game time, presenting to a pod of 10-12 other entrepreneurs, mentors/judges, and of course, the ever-present camera crew. If you won your pod, you advanced to the next round: a second presentation, this time onstage in front of all the judges, 100+ other competitors, and everyone else involved in the production. No pressure, right?

Let me tell you - day one, I was a bundle of nerves. My hands were shaking so much holding my notebook that I unintentionally fanned the entire front row. I hadn’t been that nervous in years. But once it was over? Relief. Pride. A strange calm. I had survived the first day, and I was officially in the game.

They warned us the days would be long. That wasn’t an exaggeration. By day three, I was mentally toast. Each day brought new presentations, new pods, and new pressure. When the Blox Off rolled around each night to announce the day’s pod winners, it was a weird mix of excitement and panic. You want your name called... but you also know that means writing and delivering a brand-new presentation within 10 minutes. And doing it on-stage! No room to second-guess yourself.

But here’s what made it magical: the people. Every person up on that stage was cheered on like family. The bonds we built—over meals, shared nerves, and hallway talks—turned into a true community. Fellow BLOXers became friends and an unexpected support system of entrepreneurs I’ll treasure forever.

Each day, I felt myself grow. My voice steadied. The shaking disappeared. Confidence started creeping in. The ever-changing pods kept me on my toes, and even when I was running on fumes, I still showed up for myself and gave it my all.

By the last day, I was ready. Relaxed. Confident. I had my presentation prepped in my head, and for the first time, I allowed myself to just be me. Quirky, passionate, present. It was my best performance yet, and I felt it. I finished glowing with pride for how far I’d come.

The show won’t air for a few more months, so I can’t spoil the outcome—but you better believe when Season 21 airs I will let you know!

Beyond the cameras and competition, the experience gave me so much more than presentation skills. It gave me a deeper confidence, invaluable mentoring, and real friendships rooted in shared ambition. So much so that I’m heading to Kansas soon for The BLOX Grad School—no cameras this time, just more learning and growth... and maybe a little fun too.

Pushing myself beyond my comfort zone once made me realize: I can do hard things—and I’m not done yet.
